Leeds tipped to enter race for departing Man City star Aguero

Leeds United, on Thursday, have been tipped to throw their hat into the ring for soon-to-be free agent Manchester City star Sergio Aguero.

City exit incoming

The news which Sky Blues fans across the globe were no doubt dreading was of course finally forthcoming last Monday.

This came in the form of confirmation that club icon Aguero’s time at the Etihad is set to come to an end in the summer.

The Argentine has of course long stood as one of the most lethal strikers in English football, and actually boasts, by some distance, the best goals-to-minutes ratio in Premier League history:

Aguero was also responsible for what most view as the most iconic moment in the division’s history, in netting a last-second winner versus QPR on the final day of the 2011/12 campaign, to snatch the title away from Manchester United.

Nevertheless, with injuries beginning to catch up with the 32-year-old, and his contract in Manchester due to expire in the summer, the no doubt gut-wrenching decision was eventually made for Aguero and City to go their separate ways upon the completion of the season:

Leeds keen

Swiftly following on the back of the news regarding Aguero, meanwhile, has been widespread speculation surrounding where exactly the Argentine is set to end up next.

A host of clubs are expected to express an interest in his signature in the summer, with the former Atletico Madrid man of course set to be available as a free agent.

The favourites to actually clinch a deal, as things stand, appear to be La Liga giants Barcelona.

Such speculation, though, has not put an end to suggestions that Aguero could yet remain in the Premier League. Chelsea have also been hotly tipped as a potential landing spot, with some outlets having even pointed towards an outlandish move to Old Trafford.

And, as outlined above, on Friday, yet another of English football’s most beloved clubs have seen their name thrown into the mix for City’s outgoing hitman.

The outfit in question? Leeds United.

As per a report from 90Min, the Whites are eyeing Aguero as a potential summer replacement for Rodrigo.

Marcelo Bielsa is labelled as a keen admirer of his fellow countryman’s talents, with the Elland Road hierarchy hopeful of swinging an altogether unlikely deal in their favour.

Amongst the pulling points expected to be pitched by Leeds, to offset the club’s lack of European football, include the fact that Aguero would not be forced to move from his current home in the northwest, and the Peacocks’ ambitious development plans.

It is also assured that any move for the legendary attacker would not be tied in any way to the future of Patrick Bamford.
