Laporta prepares

Joan Laporta is reportedly preparing to announce himself as a candidate for the Barcelona presidency. Having lost to previous president Josep Maria Bartomeu, Laporta is set to become an immediate favourite to win the election according to Spanish media.

Laporta was president between 2003 and 2010, helping the club become European Champions in 2006, continuing to win trophies and appoint Pep Guardiola as coach over Jose Mourinho.

The decision would prove to be the greatest in the club’s history as Pep began his domination of Europe with Lionel Messi, Xavi, Andreas Iniesta and many other La Masia graduates whom he himself had coached at the second string side.

Laporta’s replacement Sandro Rosell led the club to further trophies but ultimately began the start of their decline from European dominance. Bartomeu recently stepped down after a significant vote of no confidence and the race for the presidency looks set to heat up even more with Laporta’s supposed imminent bid.

Further to the announcement, it is speculated that Mateu Alemany will be the right-hand man to Laporta. Alemany spent time at troubled Valencia, helping secure the signings of Goncalo Guedes and Geoffrey Kondogbia who would both be pivotal into the club’s turnaround.

Alemany would become the club’s general sport’s director and integral to the club’s transfer business.
