LA Galaxy defeated Portland Timbers on Wednesday night with an emphatic 5-0 victory ahead of Steven Gerrard’s much-anticipated arrival.
Scoring five for the second time in five days, the Galaxy moved to within a point of top spot in the Western Conference.
Robbie Keane scored from the spot to double LA’s lead following Sebastien Lletget’s opener before former Leeds left back Robbie Rogers struck to make it 3-0 just after the half-hour mark.

Keane then turned provider as the former Tottenham striker set up Juninho to make it four before Jose Villarreal completed the rout.
Meanwhile, Western Conference leaders Seattle Sounders were beaten 1-0 at Philadelphia Union as CJ Sapong scored the only goal of the game.
DC United, top of the Eastern Conference, earned a hard-fought 1-0 win against Chicago Fire.
Kaka’s Orlando City recorded a 2-0 victory over Colorado Rapids as the Brazilian and Cyle Larin found the net for the hosts.
Former Sunderland striker Jozy Altidore, Michael Bradley and Sebastian Giovinco were on the scoresheet in Toronto’s 3-1 triumph over Montreal Impact while Colombus Crew came from behind to defeat New England Revolution 2-1.
New York Red Bulls beat Real Salt Lake 1-0 courtesy of a fourth-minute strike from ex-Leeds striker Mike Grella.
