Joe Cobb has become the first product of the Rugby Football League’s cadet programme to be appointed as a full-time referee.
Cobb, who has been refereeing in the Kingstone Press Championship for the last few years, made his debut in the First Utility Super League last season and has taken charge of a handful of games in 2015, including Sunday’s derby between Wakefield and Leeds.

Joe Cobb, aged 28, has been appointed as a full-time referee by the Rugby Football League
The 28-year-old, who will put on hold his career as a practising lawyer, will help plug the gap created by the departure of Tim Roby, who left in March to officiate in Australia’s National Rugby League.
RFL match officials director Jon Sharp said: ‘It’s a massive thumbs-up to the development system to see Joe make the step up. He’s been part of the cadets system for the past 18 months and he’s the first to come through there as a full-time match official.’
