The players’ role, Eriksen speaks

During the moment in the Denmark v Finland match when Christian Eriksen fell to the ground, the players reactions were inspiring.

Acting fast to help, protect and console whilst Eriksen received life-saving treatment.

Images have circulated which will be branded into the minds of those watching. Thomas Delaney could be seen encouraging his colleagues to form a privacy shield around Eriksen.

The good news is that Eriksen is recovering and has even spoken to his agent to help release a statement.

Christian Eriksen to Gazzetta dello Sport: “Thank you, I won’t give up. I feel better now – but I want to understand what’s happened. I want to say thank you all for what you did for me”. Eriksen smiling and laughing

Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel and defender Simon Kjær visited Eriksen. The goalkeeper told the media that it was great just to speak with him.

“It was damn nice to see him smile and laugh and be himself. Just notice that he is there. It was a wonderful experience and something that has helped me see that he was okay after lying there,” said Schmeichel.

“We talked about nothing and everything. As long as he is well – that has been the most important thing. He has experienced something that we have not experienced. He has a completely different experience of the situation. It was great to talk to him, and now we have a lot of work to try to navigate.

“The hardest part was what could happen. And the idea that his wife and kids should sit and watch it. It was definitely the hardest part.”

Schmeichel has had to deal with some incredibly tough moments during his career that no footballer should.

Praise too for Kasper Schmeichel who is a rock in and out of goal. Consoling Christian’s wife whilst in tears himself. Assisting the medical staff. Also let’s not forget he was first on the scene at the helicopter crash. I hope he’s looked after too. He’s been through a lot x

“That’s what makes you want to say thank you. My way of saying thank you is by showing us from our best side on Thursday. Say thank you to all those who think of us, cherish us and think we are well. It gives us courage and energy to keep going.”

“I do not remember exactly what I said in the prayer,” he said. “But it has strengthened my faith, that’s for sure.”
