Inter reject chance to make Alexis Sanchez move permanent/Man United man to return to Old Trafford – Telegraph

Reports stemming from the English media claim that Inter Milan have opted against attempting to make Alexis Sanchez’s arrival from Manchester United permanent.

United struggles

Chilean international Sanchez made the move to Manchester in January of 2018, on the back of a scintillating stint with Premier League rivals Arsenal.

To say that the 31-year-old’s time at Old Trafford subsequently proved disappointing, though, would be an understatement.

Sanchez, simply put, failed to deliver in any way, shape or form in a Red Devils jersey.

All told, last season saw the experienced South American notch a paltry 2 goals across all competitions.

In addition, amid a visible dip in confidence, and persistent fitness problems, Sanchez managed just 9 Premier League starts.

Inter switch

As such, it came as little surprise when the former Barcelona man’s departure was made official late in August.

Sanchez joined Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan on loan for the 2019/20 campaign, reuniting with Romelu Lukaku at the San Siro:

Inter woes

The attacker’s time in Milan, though, has since also proven a major disappointment.

Sanchez actually enjoyed a decent start to life in the Nerazzurri jersey, notching a goal and an assist across his first 4 appearances.

However, just when he appeared to be getting things back on track, a serious injury picked up whilst on international duty in October saw Sanchez confined to the sidelines.

The 31-year-old damaged ankle ligaments during a friendly meeting between Chile and Colombia, an injury which has since restricted him to just a solitary Serie A start.

Sanchez to return

As such, it had long proven largely unclear whether or not Inter intended to take a chance on Sanchez, by attempting to make the attacker’s signing permanent in the summer.

As outlined above, however, such a scenario appears to have been definitively ruled out.

Mike McGrath of the reliable Telegraph has confirmed that, despite his popular presence in the Inter squad, Antonio Conte and co. have opted against moving to extend Sanchez’s stay.

This, meanwhile, is set to pose a major headache for Manchester United.

Despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer having previously suggested that Sanchez is ready to prove his doubters wrong at Old Trafford next season, the assumption has long been that the Red Devils would rather be rid of the South American and his astronomical wage packet.

When bonuses are factored in, Sanchez’s wages reach a frankly ridiculous £500,000-per-week.

As such, with no other club likely to offer up even close to the same financial incentive, United look to be stuck with both their struggling attacker, and the remaining two years of his massive contract.
