Mauro Icardi scored twice in Inter Milan’s 4-3 victory over Empoli at the San Siro on Sunday to finish the season joint top-scorer of Serie A alongside Luca Toni with 22 goals.
The 22-year-old Icardi scored in the 53rd and 77th minute to ensure Roberto Mancini’s side ended their season with three points to finish eighth in the Italian league.
Toni scored for Verona against league winners Juventus earlier on Sunday and had a two-goal cushion over Icardi.

Icardi was not able to overturn the difference on the veteran striker but brought his tally level with the evergreen forward.
After a goalless first half, Icardi was the provider for Inter’s opening goal, squaring the ball into the path of Rodrigo Palacio to convert.
Icardi doubled their lead four minutes later, firing in from the edge of the box after a neat pass from Mateo Kovacic.
Levan Mchedlidze pulled a goal back for Empoli on 59 and three minutes later, they hauled themselves level with a neat first-time finish from Manuel Pucciarelli.
Marcelo Brozovic restored Inter’s lead on 70, tucking his shot into the bottom left hand corner.
