Injury update on Bukayo Saka & Emile Smith-Rowe ahead of Arsenal vs Liverpool

Smith-Rowe, Saka updates

Arsenal are approaching the return of Premier League fixtures and are faced with a difficult test against Liverpool on Saturday evening.

The Gunners will be hoping to have as many of their first team squad available and face an agonizing wait to learn the outcomes of both Emile Smith-Rowe and Bukayo Saka’s injuries

Speaking ahead of the match, Arteta spoke of the pair and provided the latest information as to their status. When asked about Saka Arteta revealed that he was yet to train with the team.

“He hasn’t trained with the team yet. He’s been doing some individual work. We had to pull him out of the squad. He’s feeling better but hasn’t trained with the team yet,” said Arteta.

Smith-Rowe did play during the international break but suffered an injury which sidelined him from the later games of the group stage elimination. Arteta hopes he will be back in training tomorrow.

“He has some discomfort in his hip. That’s why they decided to keep him out. We will see today with the physios and if he’s okay for training tomorrow,” the Spaniard said.

Laca future waits for summer

With the end of the season approaching and the opening of the summer transfer window looming, there are plenty of stories circulating about a number of players across the Premier League.

One of which is Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette who has just a single year left on his deal at the conclusion of the current campaign and has been linked with a number of clubs regarding a summer exit.

Mikel Arteta spoke positively about these links, stating that it can only be a good thing that his player is being courted by good sides.

“I’m always happy when people talk about our players and speculate – that means they’re doing well and getting attention from other clubs,” Arteta said.

“The situation with Laca we will address in the summer and speak to him and just propose the future that we want, and that’s it. Up to now I just want players focused and only focused on performing and getting the best out of them for the team.”

Despite Arteta’s positive outlook on the situation, he will have a decision to make as to whether he renews the Frenchman or tries to bring in transfer funds to spend elsewhere.
