Manchester United vs Arsenal

Manchester United’s start to the season has been nothing short of up and down. Huge losses to Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace at home yet beating PSG and RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

Yet history is solidly on the Red Devils’ side as they host Arsenal at Old Trafford. The last time the Gunners won in the famous ground it was 2006. Arsenal’s last recorded victory against a ‘big 6’ side was in Manchester in 2015 against City but their last 28 attempts have turned up winless.

Manchester United will be without Anthony Martial through suspension and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may be tempted to field the midfield diamond which helped put away Leipzig.

Bruno Fernandes is expected to return and replace Donny van der Beek. But Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Scott McTominay could make up the midfield with fred also vying for a spot.

Meanwhile, Arteta has a selection headache. Does the Spaniard decide to go defensive with the 3-4-3 which saw success against Chelsea and Manchester City or a more offensive 4 at the back.

The sides face off at 4:30pm on Sunday 1st November.

Barnes backs Ole

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has received mixed support from different aspects of the football community. However, from an unlikely red portion of the north west the Norwegian has received backing.

“From Ole’s first game, it’s always been ‘is he the man? Is he not the man?’,” former Liverpool forward John Barnes told Premier League Productions.

“It has to come to the stage, and as I said you look at experience, Sir Alex Ferguson’s first four or five years at Man United. If you know you have the right man and believe he is the right man, stick with him.”

“If Man United lose on Sunday or if they play well on Sunday, they shouldn’t get carried away either way.”

“They shouldn’t all of a sudden if they win 4-0 then say ‘right, we’re back, we’re going to win the league’ and if they lose it shouldn’t be ‘let’s get rid of Ole.”

Whether Ole does come away from Sunday’s game better off is yet to be seen.
