‘I am very positive’ – Arsenal boss Arteta provides Bukayo Saka contract update

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that the club are hopeful youngster Bukayo Saka will put pen to paper on a new contract with the club ‘very shortly’.

Gunners prodigy

Teenage sensation Saka has proven one of few bright spots in an altogether disappointing campaign for Arsenal.

After featuring very briefly under Unai Emery last season, the English youth international has since gone on to establish himself as one of the north Londoners’ key men this time around.

This comes despite Saka not being due to turn 19 until September.

The gifted starlet possesses a whole host of talents, combining pace, touch, a sumptuous left foot, the ability to beat his man in one-on-one situations and, crucially, finished product.

This is evidenced by his haul of 3 goals and a club-leading 10 assists across all competitions to this point in the campaign.

Perhaps most impressive of all, though, is Saka’s versatility.

Despite being a winger by trade, the Gunners youth product has lined out to great effect in a whole host of positions under the combination of Unai Emery and Mikel Arteta, including left-back, on the right flank, and in the middle of the park.

‘Very positive’

As such, Saka’s contract situation has come as a major source of concern for all associated with Arsenal.

The youngster’s current deal at the Emirates is due to expire next summer, with the free agent departures of the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Santi Cazorla no doubt still fresh in the minds of fans of the Gunners faithful.

Many, meanwhile, were left bewildered by Arsenal’s announcement earlier today, confirming that David Luiz has penned an extension with the club.

Loanee Cedric Soares, who has yet to even pull on the colours of the north Londoners, meanwhile, has been handed a 4-year deal:

As outlined above, though, some long-overdue positive news for Arsenal’s fans has this evening been forthcoming.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of the club’s meeting with Southampton tomorrow night, Mikel Arteta was drawn on the status of Saka’s contract negotiations.

And the Spanish tactician went on to reveal that he expects his side’s crown jewel to commit his long-term future to Arsenal ‘very shortly’:

‘I am very positive that everything is going to be done with Bukayo very shortly.’

‘The communications between the club, agents and the family has been going on for months and is very fluent.’

‘The player and family knows how much trust I have in him. I think he is just showing that every week and his consistency level is getting better and better.’

‘I’m so excited with the young players that we have. They just need the right environment around them to explode and Bukayo is doing that even in difficult circumstances which is even more merit for him.’
