Maximum Points

England finally overcame Poland after a late goal from Manchester United’s Harry Maguire spared the blushes of Manchester City’s John Stones.

Gareth Southgate’s team completed a successful week earning a maximum 9 points and sit top of their World Cup Qualifying group.

The night started well for England and they took the lead after 19 mins when Barnsley’s Michal Helik caught Raheem Sterling on the heel and a penalty was awarded. It was dispatched by Harry Kane, who became the scorer of the most penalties for England in the process.

At half time, England were in total control and Nick Pope had yet to have a single shot to deal with, but Poland drew level in the 58th minute after a terrible error from John Stones, who has been enjoying a fantastic season at the heart of Manchester City’s defense.

He had the ball at his feet in space, just outside the box, but dwelt too long and was robbed by Brighton’s Moder. The ball fell to Milik who played it back in to Moder who smashed it into the top of the net.

It was the first goal Nick Pope has conceded for England.
