Hakim Ziyech reveals latest on fitness/Provides advice for former teammate van de Beek

Chelsea star Hakim Ziyech has today opened up on both his current fitness levels, and the situation of Donny van de Beek at Manchester United.

Ziyech joins Chelsea

Moroccan attacker Ziyech’s surprise move from Ajax to Stamford Bridge was confirmed earlier this year.

In something of a bolt-from-the-blue, just weeks after the close of the winter transfer window, Chelsea announced that they had struck a €40 million deal for the gifted 27-year-old.

‘Can’t come soon enough’

Ziyech’s time in southwest London, however, has since proven altogether disappointing.

In fact, to this point, the north African has managed just two appearances for Frank Lampard’s men, amounting to a grand total of 46 minutes.

This comes with Ziyech having spent the majority of the campaign thus far on the sidelines, after picking up a knee injury during a pre-season meeting with Brighton.

And, as he steps up his efforts to regain full fitness, the attacker has today provided an update on his overall well-being.

Speaking during a press conference ahead of Chelsea’s showdown with Manchester United this weekend, Ziyech explained:

‘For me it can’t come soon enough, but if you think realistically I’ve been out for a while, the season stopped early for me last year, so I didn’t play for a while as well.’

‘The injury came at an unlucky time, so for me it’s now important just to get rhythm back and build up everything again. I know it will take some time, but for me it couldn’t be soon enough.’

‘It is what it is right now, it’s most important for me to build and get to 100 per cent fitness, and that’s what we’re working to do.’

Later in his presser, meanwhile, Ziyech was also drawn on his thoughts regarding the current situation of Donny van de Beek.

Dutch international van de Beek, a former teammate of Ziyech at Ajax, has also endured a difficult start to life in England, albeit for largely different reasons.

The 23-year-old, though, need only remain patient and wait for his chance to shine at Manchester United, according to his former partner in crime:

‘We spoke in the beginning when he moved to Man United, but we didn’t speak about his situation. I think he will need time as well, he’s come from a different country, a different style of play.

‘And I know for sure it will take some time for him as well to get used to everything and then I know for sure he will bring quality to the squad over there.’

‘For him the most important thing now is to stay calm.’
