AC Milan star Hakan Calhanoglu looks set to become public enemy no.1 on the red half of the city, after confirming plans to join Inter ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Rossoneri creator

The future of attacking midfielder Calhanoglu has long represented something of a concern at AC Milan.

This comes with the Turk, fresh off the back of a season which saw him continue to act as a key cog in Stefano Pioli’s ranks, having refused to put pen to paper on fresh terms.

Calhanoglu was handed starts in 30 of the Rossoneri’s 38 Serie A outings in 2020/21, chipping in with four goals and nine assists, en route to an eventual 2nd-placed finish.

As such, following the conclusion of the campaign, and Milan’s long-awaited return to the Champions League, it was assumed by most that the midfield talent, and Diavolo, would come to an agreement on a new long-term contract. Calhanoglu’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the month.

As confirmed by a host of reliable sources, however, those in a position of power at the San Siro tabled a take-it-or-leave-it proposal to the 27-year-old, which evidently failed to meet Calhanoglu’s expectations:

Inter bound

In turn, as outlined above, the Turkish international has today come to a definitive decision on his future. Calhanoglu’s choice, though, is unlikely to go down at all well with those at the club he has long called home.

As confirmed by the player himself during an interview with TRT Spor, Calhanoglu has opted to take his talents across the Milan divide, to line out for Inter over the seasons to come.

This comes after the Scudetto-holding Nerazzurri offered a more lucrative financial package than their neighbours, worth €5 million-per-season, and a further €1 million in bonuses.
