Great Britain’s Grainger wins fifth Olympic medal

Breaking news

Katherine Grainger became Britain’s most decorated female Olympian by taking silver alongside Victoria Thornley in the double sculls.

The British pair led for much of the race but were beaten to the gold medal by Poland, who finished in seven minutes and 40.10 seconds.

Scot Grainger, 40, won gold at London 2012 after silver medals in Sydney, Athens and Beijing.

She has only been paired with Wales-born Thornley, 28, since last year.
