Gabriel to miss Olympics
Initially called up to the Brazilian national side for the Olympics, Arsenal centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes will now miss the competition after suffering a knee injury.
The former Lille defender was set to miss all of Arsenal’s preseason and the beginning of the campaign but may now do so for alternative reasons.

After an MRI scan, it was found that Gabriel was suffering from tendonitis in the right knee. It is hoped that it will not be too serious and he will make a swift recovery but the defendercould still miss the beginning of the new season.
Gabriel is out of the Olympics. Brazilian FA say he reported for training on July 1 and complained of pain in right knee.

Saliba’s future uncertain
With the injury to Gabriel and the departure of both David Luiz and Dinos Mavropanos, Arsenal are suddenly light in the centre-back area.
This leaves just Pablo Mari as the only left-footed centre-back available.
William Saliba played much of the previous campaign in the left centre-back position on loan at Nice.
The Frenchman looked to be on his way to Marseille however the French side are about to complete the signing of Luan Peres from Santos.
Centre-back Peres was described by journalist Andre Noruega as ‘probably the best defender in the Brazilian league.’
Luan Peres (probably the best defender in the brazilian league) set to sign for Marseille for €6.5m. Thats a robbery in broad daylight. Sampaoli insisted on bringing his former player from his Santos days. https://t.co/hz7UfMfRRw

With this arrival, Jorge Sampaoli may no longer need to push for a loan deal for Saliba. Additionally, Arsenal may not want Saliba going to Marseille should minutes be limited for the Frenchman. Both Newcastle and Southampton are interested along with a number of clubs on the continent.

However Mikel Arteta could now decide to keep the 20-year-old with the Gunners suddenly light in defence, unless the club pursue further deals in the position this window.
