French Forward Olivier Giroud takes swipe at Arsenal in Chelsea admission

Giroud swaps north London for the Blues

In January 2018, Olivier Giroud was part of a triangle of deals that saw Michy Batshuayi move from Chelsea to Dortmund, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joined Arsenal and the Frenchman end up at Chelsea. The deal for the then 31 year old set the Blues back a sum of around 15 million pounds, and has gone on to score 39 goals in 119 games for Chelsea.

Now at AC Milan, Giroud has struggled to hit the ground running, due to covid-19 and injury, but has nevertheless netted 2 in 5 for the Rossoneri as they now sit 2nd in Serie A.

But how does he feel about his previous clubs?

Giroud admits he found it harder to leave Chelsea than Arsenal

Speaking to talkSPORT Breakfast., Giroud revealed that he found it more difficult to leave Chelsea than he had at Arsenal or Montpellier, telling listeners:

“[I spent] three seasons-and-a-half there [at Chelsea],”

“I had an amazing time at Arsenal but [at Chelsea] I can say even more because I won the big titles.

“It was emotionally difficult to leave when I left Montpellier and Arsenal, but even more tough [at Chelsea] because I didn’t play the last three months so it was evidence for me to leave and go for another challenge.

The French forward further elaborated:

“I felt frustrated a little bit to not play the last three months because I contributed well to the Champions League success by finishing top scorer for the team.

“But what can I say? We were so successful and I am so pleased with the FA Cup, Europa League and Champions League. I scored a few important goals.

“It was tough to leave Chelsea and the Premier League but at the end of the day I think it was the best solution for me.”

For Arsenal fans, who watched the Frenchman for six years at the Emirates, it must come as a bitter blow to hear these comments from a man that netted over 100 times for the club.
