Former Chelsea striker tips Christian Pulisic to develop into a better player than Eden Hazard

Tony Cascarino has today provided his take on the first season promise displayed by Christian Pulisic at Stamford Bridge.

Blues standout

21-year-old winger Pulisic signed for Chelsea in January of last year, before linking up with his new teammates in the summer.

And, despite his tender years and a couple of rocky patches, the former Dortmund man has since gone on to thoroughly impress during his debut season in England.

The weeks since the resumption of English football in June have seen Pulisic begin to showcase what he is truly capable of on a consistent basis, with key contributions versus the likes of Manchester City, Aston Villa and Norwich having proven crucial to Chelsea clinching a top-4 berth.

All told, across 33 appearances in all competitions thus far this season, the United States international has racked up 10 goals and 10 assists.

‘A big call’

Highlighting Pulisic’s stellar first season in England, meanwhile, have been a host of standout individual attributes.

The youngster possessing dazzling quick feet, pace to burn, the ability to ghost by opposing defenders at will and, perhaps most significantly of all, a finished product.

Such characteristics, in turn, have inevitably seen early comparisons drawn between Pulisic and one of the finest players of Chelsea’s recent past.

The individual in question is Eden Hazard, who Pulisic was essentially brought in to replace ahead of the Belgian superstar’s long-awaited move to Real Madrid last summer.

And, as outlined above, one individual who certainly feels the comparisons between Chelsea’s stars of past and present are warranted is Tony Cascarino.

Speaking in an interview with talkSPORT earlier today, former Blues striker Cascarino was asked for his take on Pulisic, with the Irishman having gone on to reveal his opinion that, should the American continue along his current path, he possesses all of the required traits to develop into an even better player than Hazard:

‘I’ve watched him develop and become a player.’

‘I looked at Hazard’s stats – first season, nine Premier League goals in his very first season, the 2012-13 season for Chelsea.’

‘I keep thinking: ‘Was Hazard as good as Pulisic has been?’ Pulisic has been out of the team at times through injury, he was brilliant in the Super Cup against Liverpool, but I think he has progressed into a player.’

‘He has got nine Premier League goals as well this season. I think Pulisic is going to be one hell of a player.’

‘He has got one advantage over Hazard, because Hazard was at Chelsea for a long time and over those years there were a few dips and sometimes he looked out of shape. Pulisic is a total pro, everything about him is professional.’

‘His pathway has been planned, from his parents down to him. The clubs, to get him to the Holy Grail of the Premier League, it’s all been programmed in a bit like an android, robot sort of form.’

‘Boy is he dangerous. If he stays in England for five, six, seven years for Chelsea, I think he’ll prove to be better than Hazard, and that’s a big call.’
