Ex-Arsenal & Man United stars dazzle with respective MOTM Serie A displays

A pair of former Premier League stars lit up the Italian top-flight this afternoon, as Inter Milan and AS Roma bagged respective victories.

Big Rom at the double

First up was Romelu Lukaku, for Inter.

Antonio Conte’s men welcomed struggling Torino to the San Siro earlier today, for their latest Serie A outing.

The hosts headed into proceedings in desperate need of a bounce-back result, on the back of an abysmal run of just 1 win from the club’s last 8 across all competitions.

And, when all was said and done in Milan, getting back to winning ways is exactly what Inter managed.

The Nerazzurri, though, in characteristic fashion, did not exactly make things easy for themselves.

In fact, with 62 minutes on the clock, it was Torino who led by 2 goals to nil, following strikes from Simone Zaza and Christian Ansaldi.

From here on in, however, it proved the Romelu Lukaku show.

First, just minutes after the visitors had doubled their advantage, the former Manchester United hitman teed up a one-time teammate at Old Trafford, Alexis Sanchez, to drag Inter back into things.

Then, in the space of just over a quarter of an hour, Lukaku bagged a brace of his own to complete the turnaround.

And the Belgian was back in the thick of things to add some gloss to the scoreline in injury-time, setting up Lautaro Martinez for the Nerazzurri’s 4th, securing a long overdue 3 points in the process.

Mkhi on fire

Elsewhere on Sunday in Serie A, meanwhile, AS Roma carried forth the club’s fine pre-international break form, with a comfortable win over Parma.

The Giallorossi entered proceedings at the Stadio Olimpico having gone unbeaten in the club’s last 9 across all competitions, a run which included 3 consecutive victories.

As such, with Parma struggling towards the bottom of the Italian top-flight table, it came as little surprise to see the hosts notch 3 goals without reply this afternoon.

The star of the show in the capital? Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Armenian international Mkhitaryan has looked back to his brilliant best over recent weeks, having been afforded a free role by manager Paulo Fonseca.

In fact, in Roma’s last outing, a 3-1 win at Genoa, the former Arsenal and Manchester United man bagged all 3 of the Giallorossi’s goals.

And ‘Mkhi’ was back on the scoresheet once again versus Parma, not once, but twice.

After doubling the hosts’ advantage just past the half-hour mark, the experienced midfielder lit up the Olimpico a short time later with a stunning 2nd, securing Man of the Match honours, and guiding Roma to 3rd in the Serie A table.
