Everton close in on double swoop with Dwight McNeil also on the radar

Everton transfer news: Double swoop planned with Dwight Mcneil also on the radar

In this article, we will cover all of today’s Everton transfer news.

Two free transfers on the verge of completion

To kick off their transfer window, the Toffees are set to enter the free agent market to strengthen their squad with Premier League experience. First up, goalkeeper Asmir Begovic is on the verge of joining the club, providing competent backup to Jordan Pickford, Everton’s undisputed no.1.

Now 34 years old, Begovic has made over 250 Premier League appearances and has kept 63 clean sheets in the process.

Meanwhile, Andros Townsend is set to join the Merseyside club following the expiry of his contract at Crystal Palace.

The Wideman will add experience from the flanks, as well as a mean delivery that could aid the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Demarai Gray to join

In addition to Towsend, Everton are thought to be close to finalising a deal for Demarai Gray, currently at Bayer Leverkusen.

The deal is thought to be setting the Toffees back just 1.5 million pounds, and will add more Premier League experience to the wide areas.

Having impressed at times for Leicester City, Gray has struggled in the Bundesliga since joining the German side in January, managing just 10 league appearances, which returned 1 goal and 2 assists. Still just 25, however, he has potential to become a mainstay in Everton’s side.

Dwight McNeil of interest too

If their transfer business is anything to go by, it seems as though new boss Rafa Benitez will be prioritising wide play. This comes as the club are rumoured to be interested in yet another winger, despite being in advanced talks with the two mentioned above.

The player in question is Burnley’s Dwight McNeil, with Times correspondent Paul Joyce, reliable for all things Merseyside, crediting the Toffees with an interest in the young winger.

With potentially three sizeable incomings, it seems as though the next step will be having to get rid of fringe players and high earners.

Despite the progress, there remains plenty still to do at Everton this summer.
