Newcastle yet to confirm Eddie Howe appointment

Newcastle United is still without a helmsman at St.

James’ Park as the club goes into Premier League action this weekend away at Brighton, but are edging closer to confirming Eddie Howe as the replacement for Steve Bruce.

It was thought that the club would have a chance to confirm the appointment in time for the former Bournemouth manager to take up his new command on Tyneside in the clash against Graham Potter’s Seagulls at the American Express Community Stadium tomorrow, but there are still details to hash-out before Howe is given a second bite at the Premier League apple.

According to Fabrizio Romano, there are still details that need to be negotiated between Newcastle and the incoming technical staff that will follow Howe to the club, but the hierarchy is said to be hard at work on finalizing any last-minute details.

Despite the small snag, Howe and the Magpies have an agreement in principle for a two-and-a-half-year contract in the northeast of England, and it certainly seems as though it is only a matter of days – if not sooner – that Newcastle will finally have some semblance of direction in their new project.

Magpies summer business rumored to be taking shape

Despite nearing a completed deal for Eddie Howe and the lack of a director of football in the new structure under the Public Investment Fund-led consortium ownership group, Newcastle is rumored to already be laying plans for transfer targets next summer.

The Magpies have recently been linked with current Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi, who is enjoying a strong loan spell at Ligue 1 giants Olympique de Marseille despite his future in north London remaining up in the air under Mikel Arteta.

Not to be stopped there, Newcastle has today been subject to rumors of interest in Barcelona’s German international Marc-André Ter Stegen.

Though it remains unclear just how likely it would be for the club to complete deals for both players, Newcastle is certainly showing a credible level of ambition as they look to find the right identity on the pitch for their new project.
