West Ham boss David Moyes this afternoon provided a fitness update on star attacker Michail Antonio.

Hammers impressing

West Ham are set to return to action on Saturday evening.

David Moyes’ outfit will make the daunting trip to Anfield, for a Premier League meeting with Liverpool.

Ahead of their clash with the champions, though, the Hammers are no doubt brimming with confidence.

This comes with West Ham in the midst of a fine recent spell of form, which has seen the capital outfit remain unbeaten across their last four league outings.

This run includes respective drubbings of Wolves and Leicester City, as well as credible draws with two of English football’s ‘top-6’.

After battling back from three goals down to bag a point at Tottenham, West Ham’s most recent outing, last weekend, saw them stand firm in the face of Manchester City’s attacking might, to secure a share of the spoils versus Pep Guardiola’s men.

‘Enough to keep him out’

As such, as his side go in search of another odd-defying result this weekend, David Moyes was no doubt hopeful of having as close to a fully-fit squad as possible at his disposal.

Unfortunately for the Hammers boss, however, not only is he set to be without one of his side’s key men versus Liverpool, but, in the process, the Hammers’ main attacking threat has been wiped out.

The last 24 hours saw a number of reports emerge across the English media, suggesting that Michail Antonio had been ruled out for somewhere between four and six weeks, with a hamstring injury.

This comes with the 30-year-old having been forced off for the 2nd-straight outing in West Ham’s draw with Man City last weekend:

As such, David Moyes was inevitably drawn on the situation during his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon.

And the Scottish tactician went on to confirm that Antonio will indeed miss out this weekend.

He also, though, appeared to hint that the Irons’ star man’s injury may not be as serious as has been suggested in the media:

‘Michail has been great for us and he’s played really, really well, he’s an important member of the team’

‘He came off against Spurs and just felt something. He played against Manchester City and he just felt it again.’

‘We don’t think it’s too bad, but it’s enough to keep him out of this game against Liverpool.’
