Concern for Arsenal: Man United in last-minute Gabriel swoop – Di Marzio

According to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Manchester United have positioned themselves firmly back in the race for Lille star Gabriel Magalhaes.

Arsenal lead chase

Speculation surrounding the future of Lille defender Gabriel has been rampant for several months now.

This comes with the 22-year-old fresh off the back of another stellar campaign at the Stade Pierre Mauroy.

Gabriel has established himself as one of French football’s standout performers over the last 18 months, after breaking into Les Dogues’ first-team setup.

The Brazilian possesses a whole host of standout defensive traits, with his abilities both in the tackle and on the ball of the highest standard.

As such, when also taking into account Gabriel’s room for growth, it has come as little surprise to see a whole host of Europe’s top clubs named as keen suitors.

The likes of Manchester UnitedEvertonNapoli and chiefly Arsenal have all been tipped as potential destinations for the Lille star.

Reports over the last 24 hours, though, finally appeared to have provided some clarification over Gabriel’s immediate future.

Following on from similar claims in the French press, a number of English outlets ran the line that Arsenal had emerged victorious in the race for the highly-regarded stopper, with a transfer viewed as imminent:

As outlined above, however, if the latest update on the situation this evening is to be believed, then Gabriel’s Emirates switch does not appear quite as much of a sure thing as has previously been suggested.

This comes amid claims that Manchester United have reentered the race for his signature.

The information comes courtesy of Italian transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio, who claims that the Red Devils today made fresh contact over the possibility of a summer move to Old Trafford.

Gabriel, in turn, is said to have asked for 48 hours to come to a definitive decision.
