Claims mount that Lionel Messi has decided to push for Barcelona exit this summer

Reliable Spanish journalist Marcelo Bechler has this evening definitively claimed that Lionel Messi has decided that he wants to leave Barcelona.

Barca humiliated

Speculation surrounding Messi’s future resurfacing of course comes on the back of Barcelona’s European exit earlier this week.

The Blaugrana got their Champions League campaign back underway on Friday night, in a meeting with German champions Bayern Munich.

And what subsequently unfolded over the course of the 90 minutes in Lisbon is no doubt set to live long in the memory of fans of both clubs.

An utterly dominant display on the part of Bayern eventually saw Hansi Flick’s men emerge with a staggering 8-2 victory.

Thomas Muller (2), Ivan Perisic, Serge Gnabry, Joshua Kimmich, Robert Lewandowski and, adding insult to injury, Barcelona loanee Philippe Coutinho (2) bagged the goals, sending Bayern to the Champions League’s semi-finals, and Barcelona home with their tails firmly between their legs.

Messi moving on?

The fallout at the Camp Nou ahead of next season, unsurprisingly, is now expected to be equally swift and ruthless.

Almost immediately following the full-time whistle at the Estadio da Luz, word was forthcoming that Barcelona have decided to sack manager Quique Setien.

Subsequent reports in the Spanish media today, meanwhile, suggested that all but 5 of the Blaugrana’s squad have been made available for transfer this summer.

It is the latest update stemming from Spain tonight, though, which is no doubt set to resonate most deeply with fans of the La Liga giants.

As outlined above, according to journalist Marcelo Bechler (the man who broke the news of Neymar’s transfer to PSG in 2017), Lionel Messi has decided that he wants to leave Barcelona this summer.

Previous reports had hinted that Argentine superstar Messi may seek out a departure in 2021, following the expiration of his current contract.

However, Bechler claims that the 33-year-old is no longer willing to wait, and is ready to seek out a new club ahead of next season:

This follows similar (albeit less substantiated) claims in the English media earlier today.
