The latest word stemming from the English media suggests that Chelsea are ready to sacrifice a trio of players this winter, to fund a move for West Ham star Declan Rice.

Chelsea rebuilding

Ongoings at Stamford Bridge of course proved one of the talking points of European football this summer.

This came with the Blues having taken advantage of the financial difficulties facing clubs across the continent, to embark on a remarkable recruitment drive.

On the back of a pair of transfer windows without a single signing, Chelsea went on to secure 7 high-profile additions.

After clinching deals for both Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner before the summer window had even opened, the last week of August saw all of Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr and Thiago Silva follow suit.

The Londoners’ biggest outlay came in the form of a rumoured £70 million deal for German international Kai Havertz, before shot-stopper Edouard Mendy rounded out the latest batch of arrivals in southwest London.

Rice incoming?

Recent weeks, meanwhile, have seen the Blues’ generous outlay begin to pay dividends.

On the back of an altogether disappointing opening to the campaign, Chelsea’s form has picked up in a major way of late, in no small part thanks to the contributions of the club’s summer additions.

The likes of Hakim Ziyech, Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell have all proven integral in the club’s 8-game unbeaten streak, a run which includes comprehensive wins in their last 4.

Nevertheless, though, if the latest speculation doing the rounds in the media on Thursday is to be believed, then Roman Abramovich does not appear ready to close his chequebook just yet.

This comes amid claims that Chelsea are ready to firmly reignite their pursuit of Declan Rice upon the opening of the January window.

As per a report from Football Insider:

‘The west Londoners are ready to follow up their extraordinary summer recruitment drive with a mega-money move for the Hammers’ prize asset.’

Whilst West Ham are expected to remain adamant in their stance that Rice is not for sale, an offer which the board at the London Stadium simply can’t afford to turn down has been hinted at.

This comes with Frank Lampard a huge fan of the English international’s talents, specifically Rice’s ability to play in more than one position.

The issue for Chelsea, however, is that a swoop for their no.1 winter target will only be funded if outgoings from Stamford Bridge are also forthcoming following the turn of the year.

Football Insider, in turn, name a trio of players – in the form of Antonio Rudiger, Jorginho and Marcos Alonso – as likely to be on the chopping block.

Only after at least two of these three are moved on, will a fresh proposal for Rice be forthcoming.

Interestingly, this backs similar claims on the part of transfer expert Fabrizio Romano during the summer:
