Chelsea handed timely fitness boost ahead of Leicester

Premier League giants Chelsea have, this weekend, been handed an altogether timely boost on the personnel front.

Havertz adds to concerns

The subject of the treatment table at Stamford Bridge has of course proven headline news over recent weeks.

This comes with the European champions, for the first time this season, having been forced to deal with a significant stretch of bad luck on the personnel front.

A host of key performers have been made unavailable for selection to Thomas Tuchel, including the likes of Christian Pulisic, Mateo Kovacic, Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku.

In turn, the last thing which those in a position of power in west London would have wanted to hear this week was of yet another member of the club’s squad picking up a fitness concern.

This, however, is precisely what was forthcoming on Thursday, when it was revealed that Kai Havertz was set to miss Germany’s meeting with Liechtenstein, owing to a bruised thigh.

‘Will start’

Havertz’s availability to take part in not only Germany’s meeting with Armenia tomorrow evening, but also Chelsea’s Premier League showdown with Leicester City next weekend, was therefore immediately thrown into doubt.

In turn, speaking during a pre-match press conference on Saturday, Germany boss Hansi Flick was inevitably asked for an update on the attacker’s wellbeing.

And, in a timely boost for club and player alike, Flick went on to confirm that Havertz has recovered, ahead of featuring from the off in 24 hours’ time:
