Chelsea enjoy perfect night as Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell score their first Champions League goals

Advantage Chelsea

Chelsea have one foot in the Champions League Semi Finals after beating Porto 2-0 in the “away” leg of their Quarter Final clash.

In what was a perfect night for Thomas Tuchel’s side in Seville,  two goals from their England stars Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell have given them control of the tie. With two away goals the result was an excellent response to Saturday’s 5-2 loss to West Brom, but it is only half time of the tie.

Chelsea struggled to get a hold on the game, but they took the lead against the run of play in the 32nd minute when Mason Mount took Jorginho’s pass and spun his marker before firing across the Porto Keeper.

The goal came from Chelsea’s first shot on target in the game, and their first in a Champions League Quarter Final in seven years and

They went into half time 1-0 up having weathered the Porto storm and with the the advantage of an away goal.

The second half followed a similar pattern, but Chelsea almost went 2-0 up when Werner headed over in the 60th minute and Cesar Azpilicueta also headed wide when it seemed easier to score.

Porto thought they had a penalty when Marega rolled Azpilicueta in the box and there seemed to be a shove by the Spaniard. However both the referee and VAR didn’t deem it worthy of a spot kick.

Chelsea tried to slow the game down and made a number of substitutions and one of those, Christian Pulisic rattled the cross bar in the 84th minute.

Chilly Night

However just moments later Chelsea did make it 2-0 when Ben Chillwell pounced on an error from Corona, hold off another challenge before rounding the keeper and slotting it into an empty net to score an outstanding individual goal.

With the return leg in the same stadium next week, Chelsea will know that if they play to the best of their abilities they may find themselves one step closer to Champions League glory.
