Karen Bardsley is imperious as she comes to claim a cross – England are going to need her to be at her best.
Jodie Taylor, again, is causing all sorts of bother at the other end, hassling and harrying defenders, making things happen, winning a free kick again here. Such incredible work ethic from Taylor.

Fara Williams is down and receiving some treatment – which isn’t great news – but that allows England to suck some more pace out of the game. Very sensible from Mark Sampson’s girls since those two Canadian chances.
Williams, eventually, is fit to continue.

This is much better from England, slowing the pace, controlling the ball and then looking long to Taylor who does brilliantly to hold it up.
Sesslemann, who is having a shocker, then gifts England a corner. The Lionesses are forcing errors.

Christine Sinclair is the latest Canadian to let fly, cutting in off the right wing, and firing low, but just wide.
This is something of an onslaught, England need to be at their best to keep them out.

Melissa Tancredi could already have two goals, heading over from a free kick this time when unmarked six yards out. Poor defending that from England, who need to concentrate.
Jodie Taylor celebrates putting England ahead

What about that? From nothing, England lead 2-0! The Canadians went into a huddle after the second goal went in.
England have been defensive at times in this tournament – can they hold out for the next 75-odd minutes?

Unbelievable scenes. A free kick, deep to the back post, where Lucy Bronze – the hero of the last round – meets it with a superb header.
Bronze thunders it off the underside in the bar and, just about, over the line. England are flying!

Out of nothing, against the run of play, and England are ahead! Lauren Sesselmann slips on the ball, Jodie Taylor pounces, drives at goal, and rifles it in from outside the box.
Mark Sampson wheels away, one hand raised, Brendan Rodgers style – what a gift.

8mins: Canada with the first effort on goal. It’s Sinclair who has it, but her effort whistles agonisingly over the crossbar.

4mins: Sampson recently claimed Canada were the most aggressive side in the tournament but it’s England who have started off by giving away a few needless free-kicks.
The defence deal with them comfortably enough, as the visitors try to gain a foothold in this game.

We’re underway here in Vancouver. Can England pull it off?

Bardsley, Rafferty, Williams, Houghton, Bassett, Scott, Carney, Moore, Bronze, Chapman, Taylor

McLeod, Buchanan, Wilkinson, Belanger, Sesselmann, Scott, Sinclair, Schmidt, Tancredi, Chapman, Lawrence

That’s what Mark Sampson is hoping to prevent this evening.
His side take on hosts Canada in around half an hour and hope to advance to the semi-finals.
