Brendan Rodgers’ job is under no immediate threat but he will be left to sweat before he faces an end of season grilling.

The Liverpool manager is due to meet Mike Gordon, Fenway Sports Group’s second largest investor, to discuss why the team under performed so badly last season.

FSG’s message all along has been that Rodgers is there man but following a 6-1 hammering at Stoke – the 18th defeat of the campaign in all competitions – pressure is building on him.

There are no plans, at present, to bring forward the meeting to some point this week and it seems likely the summit between Rodgers and Gordon will take place in June.

Rodgers has three years remaining on his current contract and he stressed last week that he was ‘150 per cent sure’ that he will still be in charge when the new campaign begins in August.

The message from Boston, where FSG are based, is that Rodgers’ retains the ownerships support but there is no doubt he will have to face a series of difficult questions from Gordon.

It is Gordon – not John W Henry or Tom Werner – who is responsible within FSG for the day-to-day running of Liverpool.
