Belgium & Leicester boost as Timothy Castagne rejoins squad after broken eye socket to continue recovery

De Bruyne, Eden Hazard fitness update

Both Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne were injury worries after Belgium’s 1-0 win over Portugal in the last 16.

Initially the Manchester City talisman went off after looking uncomfortable during the match.

There were videos and images taken of the former Wolfsburg midfielder walking after the game and stepping off the plane without issue.

However it appears that he will be unable to shake the problem for Friday. The same applies to Eden Hazard who suffered a muscular problem revealed after the match.

Roberto Martinez has given an update on the duo which brings both good and bad news. Whilst Friday will come too soon, should Belgium beat Italy then a semi-final will be available for the pair.

“They will remain with the squad. We won’t get them fully fit for Friday. In the next phase they will be fit to play. We take it day by day,” he said.

Italy will be given significant confidence to take on the Belgians without two of their key players. Romelu Lukaku, Youri Tielemans and Thorgan Hazard however will very much be looking to capitalise in their absence.

Having suffered a nasty collision in the group stage breaking his eye socket, there is some good news for Belgium and Timothy Castagne.

Seeing a teammate suffer such a horrific injury can be quite traumatic for teammates. The tournament has already seen the how the collapse of Christian Eriksen affected the players in Copenhagen.

Whilst this is far less serious, the news that Castagne will return to the squad to continue his recovery will be a psychological boost at least to the team.

As Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur reported, a 6-8 week lay off means Castagne could miss the start of the Premier League campaign.

Yet he will be cheering on his teammates as they look to win an international tournament with their golden generation.
