Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have swooped to hire rivals Borussia Dortmund’s club doctor.
The Bavarian club announced that Andreas Schlumberger will form part of Pep Gaurdiola’s backroom operation ahead of the new season, replacing Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt who quit in April.
Muller-Wohlfahrt, who had served Bayern for 40 years, walked away from the club after the medical department were blamed for the Champions League defeat by Porto towards the end of last season.

Bayern boss Guardiola blamed former doctor Muller-Wohlfahrt for Champions League defeat by Porto
Bayern were beaten 3-1 by the Portuguese outfit in the quarter-final first leg and Guardiola was forced to field an under-strength side after several players were left struggling with injury.
The former Barcelona coach denied the rift but Muller-Wohlfahrt confirmed it in a statement.
He said: ‘After the Champions League match of Bayern Munich against Porto the medical department was for some inexplicable reason made primarily responsible. The bond of trust is damaged.’
Bayern’s deputy chairman Karl Hopfner said in a statement on Thursday ‘We are delighted to have gained Dr Schlumberger, a proven expert for our team.
‘He will be responsible for the field of rehabilitation and prevention from July 1.’
Schlumberger is the latest person to swap Dortmund for Bayern after Robert Lewandowski and Mario Gotze made controversial moves in 2014 and 2013 respectively.

Robert Lewandowski left Dortmund to join Bayern on a free transfer in the summer of 2014

Mario Gotze made the controversial move from Dortmund to Bayern for £27million in 2013
