Bayern fine Jerome Boateng for breaching Covid-19 quarantine, Leroy Sane’s Munich transfer is unlikely

Bayern Munich fine Jerome Boateng for breaching Covid-19 isolation rules

Jerome Boateng has been fined by Bayern Munich for leaving his house without permission during Covid-19 quarantine.

As reported by Kicker, Bayern Munich released the following statement:

Bayern defender Jerome Boateng left Munich yesterday without permission from the club.

Boateng has transgressed the guidelines issued by the club by being too far away from his home.

These guidelines govern the behaviour of the FC Bayern players in the current situation in line with government directives on restrictions on movement and the recommendations of the health authorities.

Jerome Boateng gives his side of the story to Bild

Why was Jerome Boateng outside his house?

Bild report that the Bayern defender has left his house to drive to see his son, Jermar, who lives with his mother near Leipzig.

Boateng’s son was reportedly sick, and that’s why the German international broke his quarantine.

Unfortunately for Boateng, he had a car crash on the way back from his visit.

Local news reports circled pictures of Boateng’s car sat on the railings on the side of the motorway.

According to Bild, Boateng wasn’t speeding at the time of his accident. Rather, his car skidded off the road as he was driving on summer tyres on a snowy surface.

On Thursday, Boateng has given the following quotes to Bild about his fine:

I accept every fine in the world if it’s justified. And I know that it was certainly a mistake not to let the club know about my trip, but at that moment I was just thinking about my son.

His health was not good. When a son calls his father, of course, I’ll still go, no matter what time.

I accept every fine for him, after all, that’s my son. I want to see the father who doesn’t leave in such a moment to be with his four-year-old son. I think it’s sad.

Manchester City: Leroy Sane’s Munich transfer becomes less likely

In a separate article in Kicker, it’s reported that Leroy Sane’s possible move from Man City to Bayern Munich may be off.

Instead, Bayern seem keener on signing Timo Werner from Leipzig.
