A bizarre story surrounding Memphis Depay’s potential arrival at Barcelona has come to the fore online this afternoon.

The subject of Depay’s future has of course taken centre stage in the media of late.

This comes with the Dutch international having opted to run down his contract with Olympique Lyonnais, to secure a free transfer elsewhere.

A host of clubs, in turn, have been tipped to swoop for the gifted attacker, who is fresh off the back of an impressive campaign which saw him rack up 22 goals and 12 assists across all competitions.

Despite interest from elsewhere, though, one club – in the form of La Liga giants Barcelona – have long been viewed as favourites to land Depay.

The Blaugrana are of course strapped for cash, making a big-name free agent addition enticing.

Not only that, but the man on the bench at the Camp Nou, Ronald Koeman, has previous experience of working with Depay, during a stint together with the Netherlands.

Transfer imminent?

It therefore came as something of a surprise when, almost out of the blue, word stemming from the Spanish media this weekend pointed towards ‘tension’ at Barcelona, amid fears that the club could in fact miss out on Depay.

This came amid claims that Juventus had tabled a superior economic offer to the ex-Manchester United man, in a bid to tempt him to Turin.

As outlined above, however, if the latest activity on the official Blaugrana website is anything to go by, then those in favour of Depay’s arrival in Catalunya need not fret.

Bizarrely, as spotted by a number of eagle-eyed fans on Saturday, jerseys fitted with the Dutchman’s name were made available for purchase a short time ago:

The page featuring Depay’s details has since been taken down, but surely its initial presence points towards the attacker’s arrival at Barca now being imminent?
