Barcelona latest: Ivan Rakitic on verge of Sevilla return/Arturo Vidal ‘to leave for free’

A pair of updates on the transfer business of La Liga giants Barcelona have been forthcoming online on Monday.

Sevilla bound

First up comes the latest on the potential departure of Ivan Rakitic.

On the back of the club’s embarrassing Champions League exit at the hands of Bayern Munich earlier this month, a clearout is expected at the Camp Nou ahead of next season.

Rakitic is just one high-profile star to have been hotly tipped for an exit, on the back of a disappointing campaign last time out.

The Croatian managed starts in less than half of Barca’s league outings, whilst once again being widely targeted as a scapegoat by the Blaugrana faithful.

If the latest word across the European media today is to be believed, though, then Rakitic’s Camp Nou stay looks set to come to an imminent end.

As confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the 32-year-old is on the verge of a return to former club Sevilla:

Rakitic’s move back to Andalusia is expected to come in the form of a free transfer, with Barca having agreed to terminate the midfielder’s contract to rid themselves of his €8 million-per-year wages.

Inter favourites

Rakitic is not the only midfielder expected to depart the Camp Nou this summer, though.

In a 2nd update courtesy of Fabrizio Romano on Monday, it has also been confirmed that Arturo Vidal is set for an imminent free agent exit.

The Chilean, who has been plying his trade in Catalunya for the last two years, has permitted his representatives to open talks with the Barca board over a contract termination.

The favourites for Vidal’s signature as things stand are Serie A giants Inter Milan, where the 33-year-old would reunite with former boss Antonio Conte:
