‘Astronomical’ bid needed to convince Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke to sell

Protests & bids

Arsenal fans were out in their thousands on Friday evening, to attend a protest calling for the club’s owner, Stan Kroenke, to sell.

Most animosity between supporters and the American has gone back several years, but the news regarding the Super League last week only increased vocal backlash.

‘Astronomical’ bid needed to convince Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke to sell

LONDON, ENGLAND – APRIL 23: Arsenal fans chant and hold placards during a protest against the club’s owner Stan Kroenke ahead of the Premier League match between Arsenal and Everton, outside Emirates Stadium on April 23, 2021 in London, England. The protest, which takes place amid growing discontent over the running Arsenal FC, was sparked by the club’s recent involvement in the European Super League. There was uproar from football fans across the country earlier this week when six major Premier League football clubs, including Arsenal, announced that they were to join the controversial “closed-shop” tournament. After seeing the protests, Spotify Founder Daniel Ek threw his metaphorical hat into the ring as a potential buyer at the Emirates, to the delight of supporters.

However, despite the hope, it appears that any chance of a sale is very slim.

Astronomical bid

David Ornstein reported this morning that the Kroenke ownership would only consider selling the club, were they to receive an ‘astronomical’ bid.

The Telegraph, meanwhile, suggest that KSE would be willing to sell if a bid in the region of £2 billion came in. Could this be the ‘astronomical figure’ that The Athletic reporter was alluding to?

Josh Kroenke attended a Fan Forum this week, during which he assured supporters that he and his father have ‘no intention’ of selling Arsenal.

Instead, the pair are said to have ‘big plans’ to invest, keen to rebuild trust with the supporter base.
