Arsenal unlikely to renew David Luiz’s contract at the end of the season

Renewal unlikely

David Luiz may have played his last game for Arsenal as the club are unlikely to renew his contract according to reports.

The former Chelsea player has made 16 starts for Mikel Arteta’s men this season and was starting to show the form which earnt him a contract extension last year.

However he was forced to undergo minor knee surgery earlier this month which was set to keep him out for 4 weeks. He is set to return to training next week, but there is no guarantee he will find himself back in the starting eleven.

The Brazilian is set to turn 34 next month and is on wages of £120,000 a week. He has played 72 games for Arsenal across all competitions and helped the club beat Chelsea, who had deemed him surplus to requirements, in last year’s FA Cup final.

Arsenal feel that with two youngsters, William Saliba and Kostantinos Mavropanos set to return from loans at Nice and Stuggart and with Rob Holding and Gabriel already playing in his absence, they may have enough options in the centre of defence.
