Arsenal sensation Patino names the five Gunners stars who have helped him settle into first-team life

Arsenal prodigy Charlie Patino has, this week, provided an insight into the members of Mikel Arteta’s squad who have most helped him settle into first-team life at the club.

Who is Patino?

Patino, 17, is currently carving his path through the ranks of Premier League giants Arsenal.

The starlet is a midfielder by trade, boasting a whole range of standout technical attributes.

After beginning to catch the eye with the Gunners’ U18s last season, Patino, despite his tender years, was subsequently called up to feature for the club’s U23s, in the Premier League 2.

And the months since have only seen the Englishman go from strength to strength, amid suggestions that Patino is not just one of, but THE most promising talent currently plying his trade on the red half of north London.

This is certainly an opinion shared by the man who proved the deciding voice in luring the teen to the capital early in his fledgling career, with Brian Stapleton, Gunners scout, having recently provided an insight into Patino’s talents:

‘Of all the years I’ve been scouting, he’s the best kid I’ve ever seen.’

‘I got a tip off about Charlie from a guy, so I went over there and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. He was 11 and I think he was playing in the Under-13s, and I was like ‘wow’.’

‘His first touch was unbelievable, his vision, his awareness of space. He was way above his years, he was on another planet to anyone else on the pitch.’

‘I made a phone call to my head of my department at Arsenal at the time, Sean O’Connor. He asked what I thought and I said, ‘well, I’m not coming back again. I don’t need to see any more, you need to sign this kid straight away.’

‘Really supportive’

In turn, it should come as little surprise to hear that Patino has begun training alongside the members of Mikel Arteta’s senior squad at London Colney on a regular basis of late.

Calls have even begun to mount amongst the Arsenal faithful for the teen to be handed his first-team bow.

And, as outlined above, amid the ever-mounting clamour surrounding his name, on Thursday, Patino himself has provided an insight into life alongside the Gunners’ more high-profile stars.

Speaking in an interview with Vavel, the midfielder began:

‘It’s been a brilliant experience working alongside the first team coaches and players. You really see how good you have to be to earn a place in the squad.’

When drawn on who exactly has most helped him in settling into the demands of the first-team setup in north London, Patino continued:

‘All of the players have been really supportive, and I’ve had regular chats with Alexandre Laca(zette), Ben (White), Pablo (Mari), Emile (Smith Rowe) and Bukayo (Saka).’

From here, the English starlet concluded:

‘It means a lot to me as the club have helped me get to where I am today and I hope it’s just the beginning of more good things to come in the future for at Arsenal.’
