Arsenal are working on a staggering £35million deal for Borussia Monchengladbach defensive midfielder Granit Xhaka.
Gunners scouts have made regular checks on the Switzerland international over the past 12 months and are growing increasingly confident of launching a successful swoop.
Initial discussions over a move have taken place and are expected to gather pace in the coming weeks.

Xhaka is viewed as one of the most promising holding midfielder’s in European football and a move to the Emirates Stadium would represent quite a coup for Arsene Wenger.
The Arsenal manager has identified the defensive midfield role as one of his summer priorities and Xhaka, having watched him extensively, fits the bill.
The Gunners have expanded their scouting operation in Germany in recent months and Xhaka is a product of their work.

Arsenal plan to significantly strengthen their central midfield options this summer, with Mathieu Flamini, Tomas Rosicky and Mikel Arteta all set to leave.
Indeed, the Gunners would also be interested in Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos if he is made available this summer.
Southampton’s Victor Wanyama also has his admirers at the Emirates Stadium.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Petr Cech is expected to return to Arsenal’s starting XI for Saturday’s clash against Watford.
Cech has missed nearly a month with a calf injury but is set to return this weekend.
