Arsenal defender speaks out as Odegaard move ruled out

In this article, we will cover all of today’s Arsenal transfer news

Locatelli latest

Manuel Locatelli set the stage alight in the group stages of Euro 2020, scoring twice as Italy picked up nine points in their group without conceding a goal.

Those who were familiar with the 24-year-old before the tournament will also speak in glowing terms of the season the Italian midfielder had for domestic side Sassuolo in Serie A.

Such performances have left him subject to interest from both Arsenal and Juventus, with Sassuolo looking to cash in on his inflated price tag this summer.

At present, however, it is the Turin club that sit in the driving seat, despite not having made a suitable offer.

According to twitter journalist Fabrizio Romano (via Guardian Sport), Arsenal are awaiting the outcome of Juventus’ bid, which has not yet been satisfactory:

“Juventus have offered €30m but as a loan for the 2021-22 season and an obligation to buy next summer. Sassuolo have turned down the initial offer and told Juve that they are not interested in a loan plus obligation to buy transfer.”

However, it is also added that Locatelli himself would rather join Juventus, suggesting that even were Arsenal to have their bid accepted, they would have a hard time convincing the Italian to swap Italy for London.

Odegaard blow

Martin Odegaard spent the second half of last campaign at the Emirates stadium, helping to alleviate some of the creative woes that the Gunners had suffered in the first half of the season. Such were his performance levels that Arsenal were rumoured to be interested in making the move permanent, something that seemed likely when Zinedine Zidane was in charge.

The Frenchman was not Odegaard’s biggest fan, but stepped down at the end of the season, and with a change of manager came a change of attitude. Carlo Ancelotti is seemingly keen to keep the young midfielder in the Spanish capital this season.

Indeed, as per Spanish outlet Diario AS, Odegaard will join Gareth Bale and Dani Ceballos as players kept in Spain for the upcoming season, despite all three having been loaned out last season. This will come as a hefty blow to Arsenal. who will now have to hunt for alternative targets.

Saliba speaks out

Arsenal’s decision to loan out William Saliba, a 27 million pound signing in 2018, for a third successive season left some Arsenal fans scratching their heads. Questions over Mikel Arteta’s player management, and his ability to spot talent were called into question on social media.

In the time since, however, Saliba has spoken out after joining Marseilles. The 20 year-old defender said:

“I am very proud to join one of the best French clubs. I cannot wait to be on the Orange Vélodrome pitch. Where I am from, in Paris, lots of those close to me are for Marseille, I am proud to wear this shirt.”

“I know Mattéo (Guendouzi), Bouba (Boubacar Kamara). I know them all, but those are who I am the closest with. I cannot wait to be back with my new team-mates so that we can work together… When there is competition, that just pushes us to give the best of ourselves.”

He then spoke of what he contact he has had with new boss Jorge Sampaoli since he joined, revealing:

“We spoke. He wanted me in his team. He explained to me that even though I am a good player now, I had a lot of things to improve. With him, I will have ways of progressing… His playing philosophy speaks to me. I can play in a four, on the right or on the left. As long as the team is good, I can play everywhere.”

Does this prove that Arteta was right to send the youngster out again to make these improvements?
