Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi donating over 16,000 meals to vulnerable during COVID-19 crisis

Arsenal step up

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused major disruption around the globe.

As of Saturday afternoon, it has been reported that over 2.2 million people worldwide have been infected with the virus.

Johns Hopkins University claim that around 155,000 of those people have sadly passed away.

JHS also report that over 14,500 of those to have died as a result of COVID-19 have been in the United Kingdom.

The UK is still currently under lockdown, with all football suspended for the time being.

But whilst clubs can’t play games at the moment, the majority of Premier League sides have certainly stepped up in recent weeks to aid their local communities.

One of the clubs to have helped out massively during this difficult period is Arsenal.

It was reported on April 10th that the Arsenal Foundation had delivered 15 tonnes worth of emergency supplies, including 30,000 free meals, across the Islington area of London:

And now, this weekend, one of the Gunners’ key men has also stepped up.

Shkodran Mustafi turned 28 on Friday the 17th of April.

To mark the occasion, Mustafi announced that he wanted to show his support to the local community and Arsenal family.

As a result, the German stated that he would be donating a delivery of over 16,000 meals and other emergency supplies to vulnerable people in Islington:

“I just want to say thank you for all of your birthday messages. I have been reading them and I am really happy about every single one. Normally for my birthday, I would spend the day with my family and friends all together to celebrate.

“But for obvious reasons, this is currently not possible. But I know that there are people in Islington who are really struggling at the moment and I want to show my support to the community and to our Arsenal family for my birthday this year.

“I have seen the work the Islington Council and The Arsenal Foundation are doing – and I want to join in and help by donating a delivery of over 16,000 meals and other emergency supplies to the people in Islington who need our support now more than ever.”
