Arsenal among trio of Premier League sides linked with Roma midfielder Amadou Diawara

Recent reports stemming from Italy have credited Arsenal with an interest in AS Roma midfielder Amadou Diawara.

Diawara’s Roma stint

Roma acquired Diawara’s services from fellow Italian outfit Napoli in the summer of 2019.

The Giallorossi are understood to have paid just shy of £19m for the defensive-minded midfielder.

Since making the move to the Italian capital, Diawara has gone on to feature 38 times across all competitions, though he did miss a considerable chunk of the 2019/20 campaign through injury.

For the most part, though, the 23-year-old has proven a solid addition to the base of Roma’s midfield.

Arsenal linked with Diawara

In turn, given his age and impressive form, it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to hear that Diawara is garnering transfer interest.

One club said to be keeping a close eye on the African, meanwhile, are Arsenal.

A potential swap deal involving Arsenal’s Lucas Torreira and Diawara was touted during the summer.

Such a move, of course, failed to come to fruition, with the Uruguayan having instead joining Atletico Madrid on loan, whilst the Gunners brought in Thomas Partey.

On the back of Arsenal landing Partey, most no doubt assumed that any remaining interest in Diawara would be brought to an end.

This comes with Mikel Arteta’s squad in desperate need of a more creative-minded midfielder.

However, as per a recent report from LaRoma42, as cited by Goal, Arsenal remain keen, with the north Londoners having been joined by West Ham and Leicester in the race for Diawara.

A fee of just £15m, meanwhile, is touted as potentially enough to lure the midfielder to England.
