Andrey Arshavin advises Arsenal to sell Mesut Ozil: ‘He slows the game down’

Andrey Arshavin has revealed his opinion that Arsenal should attempt to move Mesut Ozil on, despite his ‘world-class’ ability.

Ozil’s exit links

Speculation surrounding Gunners midfielder Ozil has reemerged in force over recent months.

Amid another largely-disappointing campaign to this point, during which the 31-year-old has often struggled for form, question marks have begun to crop back up regarding a potential summer exit from the Emirates.

Despite Ozil having established himself as first-choice since the appointment of Mikel Arteta, he has, to this point in the campaign, managed just a solitary goal and 2 assists across 18 Premier League starts.

This is the type of return that has led to large sections of Arsenal’s fans doubling down on their calls for their side’s no. 10 to be moved on.

Ozil’s agent, Erkut Sogut, meanwhile, last week refused to rule out the possibility of his client departing north London in the near future.

During an interview with Goal, Sogut explained:

‘You never know in football. First of all, you can never predict the movement of players.’

‘Prefer to use another player’

And, as outlined above, one individual who is very much of the opinion that Arsenal should attempt to move Ozil on as soon as possible is Andrey Arshavin.

Speaking earlier today, former Gunners star Arshavin was drawn on Ozil’s role at the Emirates.

And the Russian went on to suggest that, though Arsenal’s no.10 possesses the abilities of a ‘world-class player’, Ozil’s tendency to slow the game down means that better options are available to Mikel Arteta:

‘As a player, of course, I respect him. Mesut is a world-class player,’ Arshavin told 888 Sport.

‘But for me personally he slows down the game. I would prefer to use another player. Mikel, as we can see, is the opposite and plays him a lot.’

‘He has improved his game at Arsenal but still, in the future, I do not see him there.’
