Ander Herrera & Mesut Ozil take stand against the European Super League with passionate social media posts

Players had no idea

Whilst the clubs are caught in a whirlwind of controversy, managers are being relieved of their duties and fans are giving social media the full brunt of their frustration regarding the European Super League proposals, the players seem to have been overshadowed.

It is arguable that their point of view is the most intriguing as they will now be or wont be playing in these tournaments.

Some have been more vocal than others on social media.

101 spoke to a player at a Premier League club, not one of the Founding Clubs, who simply did not know what to say when asked for a comment.

Although they did confirm that last night’s announcement was the first they had heard of a European Super League imminently forming with no information given to them prior by their club.

Plenty of former players have already shown their disgust for the idea.

Value & history thrown out the window

Looking onto social media, some players have voiced their views publicly.

Current PSG midfielder and former Man United player Ander Herrera released his opposition statement.

Ex-Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has also taken to social media to provide his retort to the plan.

Former Crystal Palace and Everton winger Yannick Bolasie described the people behind the movement ‘mercenaries.’

The Independent’s Melissa Reddy reported that players were not considered when the decision was made and supposedly ‘aren’t keen’ on the idea. Reddy claims this is purely a club owner driven ideal.

Former Arsenal striker and Sky Sports pundit Alan Smith described a feeling a sickness.
