Ajax reportedly eyeing move for Crystal Palace’s Patrick van Aanholt

A report from England on Tuesday has linked Ajax with a move for Crystal Palace full-back, Patrick can Aanholt.

Van Aanholt’s Crystal Palace stint

The Dutchman would make the move to Selhurst Park in January of 2017.

Palace are understood to have paid Sunderland just under £10m for van Aanholt’s services.

The former Chelsea man has since gone on to notch 115 appearances across all competitions for the Eagles, becoming a mainstay in Roy Hodgson’s backline over the last several years.

In said games, PVA has scored 14 and provided five assists for his club.

The now 30-year-old would miss the start of the current campaign through injury.

But since returning he has seamlessly slipped back into Palace’s first eleven, featuring in their last four league outings.

Ajax eyeing Patrick van Aanholt

However, though van Aanholt is still quite clearly a key figure at Palace, his future at the club is somewhat up in the air.

This comes with the experienced defender’s current contract set to expire in the summer of 20221.

And with no new deal yet confirmed, van Aanholt is currently free to negotiate a pre-contract deal with foreign clubs from the 1st of January, 2021.

And as mentioned above, a foreign club has seemingly begun to take an interest in the stopper.

Said club is believed to be Ajax, with Football Insider reporting that:

Ajax are lining up a move for Crystal Palace star Patrick van Aanholt ahead of the January window

FI go on to state that van Aanholt is viewed as a potential replacement for Nicolas Tagliafico.

They also reported last week that Palace’s contract talks with van Aanholt were ‘facing collapse’.
