Victor Wanyama has been left out of the Southampton squad to face Norwich on Sunday, leading to further speculation over his future at St Mary’s.

Koeman admitted that Wanyama, who is wanted by Tottenham before the transfer window closes on Tuesday, was not ‘mentally and physically good enough to play’ against the Canaries.

Wanyama was also absent as Southampton were knocked out of the Europa League against Midtjylland in Denmark on Thursday due to a stomach infection.

A few days before their Europa League exit, the midfielder had held meetings with Southampton to tell them he wants to leave.

Koeman, however, is desperate to keep him at the club having already lost midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin to Manchester United this summer.

Wanyama had featured in all three of Southampton’s Premier League games so far this season, and played the full 90 minutes as they held Watford to a 0-0 draw last Sunday.
