Sky Sports will kick off celebrations of the 50th anniversary of England’s 1966 World Cup victory by giving the final match its full Monday Night Football treatment on January 4.
Gary Neville may no longer be around to offer his verdict on Sir Alf Ramsey’s ‘wingless wonders’, but Sportsmail’s Jamie Carragher and MNF presenter Ed Chamberlin will be analysing the Three Lions’ greatest triumph.
The pair will be using their usual array of modern technology, including statistical data from Opta, the SkyPad touchscreen and virtual reality from EA Sports, to review the match – as well as conclusively proving whether Geoff Hurst’s second goal did cross the line.

Sky Sports head of football Gary Hughes said: “England’s World Cup win is one of the most talked about moments in football, and as we reach the 50th anniversary it’s only right that we give the match the full Sky Sports treatment.
‘Monday Night Football has a strong reputation for the best analysis and final word on a Premier League weekend, hopeful this special edition can provide even greater insight into a huge moment in English football history.”
The double bill will also feature a 90-minute documentary entitled ‘The Boys of ’66’, which looks back at the team of players who contributed towards Bobby Moore raising the Jules Rimet trophy at Wembley.

Former England captain David Beckham and current manager Roy Hodgson are among the contributors
The documentary, which is narrated by Sky Sports commentator Martin Tyler, tells the whole story of the tournament within the context of the era it came to define.
There are interviews with the likes of hat-trick hero Hurst, Gordon Banks and Roger Hunt as well as a rare talk with the superstar who missed out, Jimmy Greaves – as well as contributions from David Beckham, Roy Hodgson and others.
‘The Boys of ‘66’ will be broadcast on Sky Sports 1 from 7pm on Monday 4 January 2016, with the Monday Night Football special following immediately after at 8.30pm. Both programmes will be available On Demand until 2017.
