He may be Manchester City’s most expensive signing but Kevin De Bruyne had difficulty with even the basics on Monday, kicking the flag instead of the ball as he tried to take a quick corner.
The Belgian’s rushed set-piece caused the City star to tumble over, much to the amusement of the Arsenal fans, before regaining his balance to take the corner. The gaff compounded a lacklustre first-half at the Emirates Stadium with Manuel Pellegrini’s side falling 2-0 down at the break.
Yaya Toure pulled a goal back within the last ten minutes but Arsenal kept their composure to complete a crucial three points in the title race and moved four points ahead of City in the Premier League table.

However, City boss Manuel Pellegrini focused on the positives, pleased by his side’s response in the second half, to insist they will challenge for the title.
‘I am thinking about the future not the past,’ said Pellegrini. ‘We have 63 points more to win. I think the way we played in the second half we are going to be an important team in fighting for the title.

‘In the second half we took more risks, we created a lot of chances, we had more possession, we had lots of shots but in a match this important you can’t make mistakes.
‘We played better than Arsenal but for the second goal we made a mistake and that was decisive. I am very proud of the attitude of the team though. We kept fighting until the end and never gave up.’
