Chelsea fans may have mixed feelings about the news of Jose Mourinho’s demise but many on social media are showing little sympathy.

Images of a laughing Arsene Wenger, who’s had run-ins with Mourinho this season, and Dr Eva Carneiro, the former club medic who left the Blues after a high-profile clash with the manager, have proven popular in the immediate aftermath of his sacking.

As have a myriad of ways to bring Mourinho’s apparent preference for defensive-minded tactics, or ‘parking the bus’.

Here, Sportsmail highlights some of the best memes, virals and comments on Mourinho’s downfall.

ArsenalFanTV couldn’t decide between a smug-looking Wenger or a relaxed Dr Carnero sipping on a glass of wine in their response to the axing of their London rival’s boss.

Michael Gooner pounced on the fact that Claudio Ranieri, the manager Chelsea dispensed of in favour of Mourinho when Roman Abramovich took over the club, led his Leicester side to the 2-1 victory over the Blues before his sacking.

Not all reactions have been mocking Mourinho, with ChelseaTransfers posting this Vine to express their shock.

PaddyPower gets in on the act, choosing to pray on Mourinho’s expertise at parking the proverbial bus with defensive-minded tactics, as does Prince Charles – though this isn’t the official account of His Royal Highness.

Jose’s innocent wave after a post-match press conference takes on a whole new meaning after billionaire owner Roman Abramovich chose to pull the plug.

Could Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal be next? His fourth place looks rather rosy compared to Chelsea’s 16th but his side is on a run of four matches without a win.

Comedian Rob Beckett has some spending advice for Mourinho should he receive a reported £40m payout from the Blues – spend it on Arsenal master of the assist, Mesut Ozil.

You’re fired! This is what it would look like if Sir Alan Sugar sat in Abramovich’s seat.

Fans of mocking Brendan Rodgers, himself sacked as Liverpool boss for Jurgen Klopp this season, will be disappointed at the appointment of Guus Hiddink as interim boss.

Clare Balding sat down for an interview with Jose to speak about the dramas surrounding his tenure at Chelsea, and inadvertently predicted his demise. The interview will still air on BT Sport on Thursday night.

Those on Merseyside couldn’t help themselves…
