As energy files continue to dog the Harper government’s relationship with the U.S., President Barack Obama’s energy secretary, Ernest Moniz, is in Ottawa to meet with Natural Resources Minister Greg Rickford.
A joint press conference is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. ET to “discuss the outcomes of their third meeting regarding bi-lateral energy co-operation.” CBCNews will livestream this event.

The Canadian and American governments have been collaborating on research and promotion for clean energy technologies, such as solar and wind power.
The United Nations is hosting a climate change next Tuesday that will bring heads of state and senior officials from more than 125 countries, including U.S. President Barack Obama, to New York. On Thursday, more than 340 institutional investors representing $24 trillion in assets called on the summit to set carbon pricing policies that encourage the private sector to invest in cleaner technologies.
With the fate of the Canadian government’s heavily-promoted Keystone pipeline tied up in Nebraska court and no final decision expected from the White House anytime soon, the two counterparts are expected to discuss also recent moves in the oil and gas sector, as well as other areas of joint interest, such as coal regulations.
During a visit to Ottawa yesterday, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko told CBC News that Canada could play an important role in assisting with Ukraine’s goal of energy independence from Russia. Poroshenko moved on to Washington Thursday looking for additional support from the Americans on several fronts.
