Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has backed Fernando Torres to reach a century of goals for the club sooner rather than later.
Torres has been stuck on 99 goals for Atletico since September 19 when he netted in a 2-0 at Eibar in La Liga.
The 31-year-old striker has since endured a 17-game goal drought which he will hope to end on Wednesday night at city rivals Rayo Vallecano.

Atletico Madrid forward Fernando Torres is one strike away from reaching 100 career goals for the club

Torres has since endured a 17-game goal drought but Atletico boss Diego Simeone thinks that’ll soon change
Atletico sit level with La Liga leaders Barcelona on 35 points having played a game more than the Catalan club and Simeone insists there is more to come from his squad – including ‘idol’ Torres.
‘I always expect more from all of them, Fernando loves the club and he is an idol,’ Simeone told reporters.
‘He has brought a lot to the club, tomorrow he will play and he is close to the famous 100th goal.
‘He always has chances, so he has to continue working as he is and forget the pressure which I do not think is a big problem for him.
‘Things will change and go right for him I am sure, when you least expect it.’

Simeone is preparing his side for Wednesday night’s trip to city rivals Rayo Vallecano
