Damien Duff made his League of Ireland debut for Shamrock Rovers as the Hoops cruised to a 3-0 win over Cork City to keep their hopes of Europa League qualification very much alive.
The Republic of Ireland legend has Brandon Miele to thank for being sprung from the bench in the 90th minute.
It was the 20-year-old’s neat finish from a clever Mikey Drennan pass which was the catalyst for manager Pat Fenlon giving Duff his highly-anticipated debut.

The international centurion was given a rousing reception by the Tallaght Stadium faithful as he made his bow and he buzzed around the pitch with the wide-eyed exuberance of a teenage debutant.
As Duff confirmed on Sunday, he will give every cent of his wages over the course of his 18-month contract to charity but he certainly wasn’t taking things easy for the short time he was on the pitch.

Even with the hosts 3-0 up and cruising to victory against second placed Cork, the two-time Premier League winner gave young teammate Gareth McCaffrey an earful for a sloppy pass in the final minute of injury-time.
And he showed all his experience right at the death when he drew a foul in the corner to waste more valuable time.

Rovers were full value for the win over the 90 minutes. Gavin Brennan sent them on their way with a powerful header when he rose highest in the box in the 36th minute.
The Hoops then came flying out of the blocks for the second half and were two up 11 minutes later when Mikey Drennan and Danny North linked up for the latter to double the lead.
And that’s how it stayed until Miele’s neat finish in the 89 minute. But the biggest roar of all came when Duff made his appearance
